About The Swamp Oracle
Auntie Marrow is an original character in a small fortune-telling toy. She reads your dream and your stars, answers five questions, and then throws you out. It's for entertainment only. Nothing she says is advice.
This project is an homage to the point-and-click adventure games of around 1990. It isn't affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any game company. The character, art, sounds, and writing are all original. The art is generated by a script, the sound is synthesized live in your browser, and the font is VT323 (SIL Open Font License).
Her old books
The readings draw on two public-domain texts from Project Gutenberg, paraphrased and argued with:
- Gustavus Hindman Miller, Ten Thousand Dreams Interpreted; Or, What's in a Dream (1909). Gutenberg #926
- Sepharial, Astrology: How to Make and Read Your Own Horoscope (1920 edition). Gutenberg #46963
Both are over a century old and contain some dated ideas. She has been told to ignore those, and she's happy to.
Privacy
Your answers are sent to an AI model (Anthropic's Claude) to write the reading. This site doesn't store them: the visit lives in a signed cookie that expires within the hour. Your IP address is used briefly to rate-limit requests. The fortune card is drawn in your browser and never includes the dream you typed.
If you're struggling
She's a cartoon. If you're having a hard time, in the US you can call or text 988. Elsewhere, contact your local emergency number or visit findahelpline.com.
